Ingrown Toenail Surgery – what does it involve?

This is a minor surgical procedure. It takes about 15 minutes to perform. Your foot is first cleaned with an anti-bacterial solution to minimize the chance of infection. Following this, a local anaesthetic is injected along the base of your toe to freeze it.

Once the toenail is frozen which Dr. Kundhal will confirm before starting your procedure the ingrown portion of the toenail is lifted off the nail bed and then cut out. The nail root will be destroyed by curetting and burning it. This greatly decreases the chance of the ingrown toenail from recurring. Dr. Kundhal will review this procedure with you in detail prior to the start of your toenail surgery.

This procedure in experienced hands can be done quickly with minimal discomfort.
